THE CONCRETE SAND PARADOX, PART 2
Просмотров 890Год назад
Natural concrete sand is almost gone. The world has used concrete as a basic building block throughout time. One of the basic raw materials needed for concrete is sand. And while there is a plentiful supply of sand around the world, the specific type needed for concrete has been reduced to a fraction. In this video we wanted to start focusing on this topic to do the following: - Bring awareness...

How Lack of Technical Transfer is Killing Our Planet - Intelligent Concrete Vlog 724
We are getting more in depth about our HRWR dosages in Illinois. Specifically we are seeing what HRWR naphthalene lignin poly carboxylate and its effect on Air entrainment in concrete. I know this is diverse and vague explanation but do you have any information on this? You talk about so many different aspects in this series but do you properly cover air entrainment and the effects of HRWR on Air Entrainment?
Have you made Colloidal Cellular Concrete? Heard that at Densities between 1000-1100kg/m3, it reaches compressive strengths of more than 50mpa. You know?
Yes. It’s all in the paste and maximizing hydration.
@@IntelligentConcrete Thank you very much for answering, what would be a mix design for 1m3 at Density 1000kg/m3? You know? Highly grateful if you can help me
Which mix design procedure should be applied for lightweight Pervious concrete as per ACI code??
ASTM C 192 if you are mixing in the lab.
@@IntelligentConcrete I mean calculation for proportioning like 1 : 1.6 : 7.2 Which ACI code should be used for lightweight Pervious concrete.
ACI PRC-213-14(23) Guide for Structural Lightweight-Aggregate Concrete Reapproved 2023
@@IntelligentConcrete thank you for answering this code is for lightweight concrete not for lightweight Pervious concrete. Is there is any ACI CODE for lightweight Pervious concrete? Is it possible you provide me your WhatsApp no, I shall very thankful to you
Understood. I’ll check but I don’t believe there is a standard for the combination. The best way to get in to h with me is shooting me a message from our website contact form. www.intelligent-concrete.com/contact-us/
On a deep dive into concrete topics late at night, I’ve been curious about the practical effects of high-range water-reducing (HRWR) admixtures on air entrainment, especially when using the pressure method for on-site air tests. What factors cause the test results to 'jump,' leading to lower air dosages at the plants as a precaution? I understand that the defoamer plays a huge part but essentially why do we see low specific surface and spacing factor results that don't align with the on-site air test outcomes? Essentially, we need the same series, but focused on types of air entrainment, their importance, and how the effects vary based on the mix. START THE VLOG BACK UP!
Who the f is cutting onions in here?!! Beautifully series of questions and thanks for the shout out to start the vlog. The studio is almost set up after the move and this will need to be our first video. Thank you again. Here is a short answer to your questions.
- why do we see “air jumps” at the plant? + we literally had this conversation all of last week. Air jumps can be caused by a lot of things - our recent chat focused on a change in the dirtiness of sand how the air went from 2% to 11% with the same dosage (2 fl oz per cwt). What I would do in this situation is an “elimination diet” with your mixes - find out the cause first. If indeed it is your HRWR, that is not unheard of, check to see if your reformer has separated from the HRWR. It normally can be seen floating on top of the tank of HRWR. I have a picture of what it looks like and will include it in the video. This happened to me years ago at a plant in New Mexico and Colorado. It happens. Finally, I hate to add this but… are you using the hardened air void analysis or the SAM? That SAM as much as I like it can be a pain to calibrate. I would double check the SAM make sure everything is good - it could be a calibration thing too.
Just found this channel. Been pumping concrete 25+ years and your videos are extremely helpful and educational. Thanks for what you do 🤙🤙🤙
Thank you!!!!! You should check out our videos on concrete pumping. We go into detail about concrete pump pressure, why and how they’ve been changing over the years.
Amsterdam, I was told that Dutch forced labourers in WW II , pouring concrete along the ,Atlantic Wall, to place big guns on top for the Germans. Was sabotaged by all of them adding sugar in the mix. The concrete got britle, and cracked. When the first test salvo 's were fired.... 10 workers got randomly executed, in front of all ,slaves, And all sugar was banned from the building sites 😢
Engineering terms made simple. Thanks
No problem let me know if you have any other concrete questions.
isnt it the compressive strength is calculated by the bigger area of the cylinder? the diameter x height?
No Sir. P = F / A. Pressure = Force divided by area of the applied load.
@@IntelligentConcrete oh surely i know its §=P/A, what i mean is the area(A) use to calculate the compressive strength, isn't the diameter x height?
@@stanjames4548 no. That is when you are doing Splitting tensile strength.
I’m assuming your mixes containing colloidal silica are made using liquid colloidal silica additive? Can you get the same results using dry powder like silica fume (cabosil)? From my understanding of making a good clay body in ceramics, particle size distribution plays a huge role in strength of final product. Is the colloidal silica in concrete helping with the particle size distribution on the very fine end, and adding strength because of that? Or is it some other property of the colloidal silica?
There a lot of properties we get out colloidal silica: instantaneous pozzolanic reaction, accelerated cement dissolution, particle to particle packing and more. You could get similar benefits from silica fume and the like all be it not to the degree.
Can you tell me one thing that I am trying to make white cement showpiece but the white cement is not getting tightened.....
Is the cement new or old?
You can always add an accelerator to the cement or reduce the water content, but without knowing what type of cement it is, besides it being white, it’s hard for me to give a direction
New... I bought a 1 kg packet of white cement
Can you tell me what you add ?? 2:1 ratio of cement and water ...is there anything else you add?
Less water.
So cars accelerate the degradation of the concrete structures they drive on through their emissions. Interesting.
Agreed
I wish she was my wife
Thanks, Dr Belkowitz! Question: iron silicate is the primary material waste resulting from deep injection geothermal wells. Would this iron silicate work poorly as a concrete aggregate?
Ehhhh. One way to find out. My guess is yes but you’ll need some higher dosages. I am guessing your solid content is around 1-5%. Can you filter it to a higher solid content where it grows into Colloidal Silica?
Hence not allowing slab to cure properly as a unified slab structure overworking concrete does bring air to surface but cooking with steel creates heat: in my opinion never book taught but like video keep sharing thanks jtravis
I have come to the conclusion through yrs of experience steel cooks top surface causing faster setting time of top surface creating a void or seperation from bottom portion of concrete top has such faster setting time when a cure and seal is used i believe this allows a chance for bottom portion to pull top portion together have a sealed barrier preventing massive water loss from top portion
Thanks for the input
can drinking silicate (from soda water) dangerous?
Drinking soda water isn’t dangerous that know of…
Just like pump mix. She’s got the lube! I’ve got a few questions 1. What causes concrete to flash set? 2. What’s the difference between hydration stabilizer and retarder? 3. Do you think brown sugar is more potent than white sugar for killing concrete. Thank you good sir, I love your channel
Thank you!!!! Here are the answers, let me know if you babe any other questions. 1. Flash set is normally due to a lack of gypsum added during the manufacturing process. Without the correct type or smith of gypsum the cement hydration process can take off like a bat out of hell. 2. A “set retarder” should only impact the fresh properties by delaying the concrete setting (initial, 500 psi and final, 4000 psi). Meaning if you don’t have enough finishers on the jobsite, the set retarder will delay set time to give you more room to level and close up the concrete surface before you need to do final finishing operations. A “hydration stabilizer” is designed to counteract anything that will accelerate the hydration process. We normally used them as part of a “Fast track pavement” and “mass concrete.” Where we put a lot of accelerators in the mix but wanted to stabilize the reaction until enough cement has dissolved and we can maximize earl strengths - FTP. And to reduce the heat build up in mass concrete that could causes internal temperatures to build up to high and cause cracking.
Im gonna try sugar, flour, and eggs and make a croncrete cake. Thanks for the idea. Haha.
Awesome!!!!!
Instead of pozzolanic % can I just use reactive fraction I.e total amorphous material? For OPC equivalent this would just be the cement phases (e.g. alite).
See what happens.
I understand that clear benefits, but every time I see pervious concrete slabs, it is full of cracks and settlements. It seems to me that the same water that leaks through the aggregate also washes of the soil that supports the concrete, therefore settling it. And if it needs replacement in few years because of that, then it seems like it's more eco-friendly to built with regular non-pervious concrete. What do you guys think?
Settlement is usually a fault of the subgrade - base course. I think it all depends where you are willing to invest resources and what the objectives are for the project. Sometimes, pervious is a really expensive slab. Nothing more.
Excessive cementitious/UPC "expensive ultra fine aggregate". Many thumbs up!
A quick clarification question. One method says: “Prior to mixing the test material, the mixer should be “buttered” using aggregates and a non-air-entraining cement other than that supplied by the cement and concrete reference laboratory.” I’m a believer of buttering the drum with a non-representative random mixture of mortar. The 3 levels of butter accuracy: 1. No butter bare drum. Pros: simple to do. Cons: paste + sand (Mortar) will be left in mixer. The final batch will have a higher coarse aggregate percentage than designed. Smaller batches will lose a larger percentage of their batch to coating the drum. 2. Random butter to coat drum. Pros: almost as simple as above(1). Theoretically no mortar should be lost from the buttered drum to after dumping out the mixed batch. Cons: cement+SCM’s+water+sand left in the mixer may not match the final batch proportions exactly. 3. Representative butter sample identical to that of the tested mix design. Cons: Much more complicated to get a mini-batch to the same slump & entrained air consistency as the final batch. It takes time to test & adjust even before completing the main test batch. Pros: Theoretically should be the most representative if the exact same raw constituents are used from butter to batch.
For full experiment you had to reduce the amount of water on 3 and 4, just because you can. Maybe because it was too liquid, it separated the cement from sand.
Please make a light emmeting concrete
Hello Guys. I'm surprised that there are no comments on this page. Spraying water while finishing concrete is a standard procedure on many commercial job sites, and virtually ALL residential job sites. To the point that finishers will not even discuss the practice. Are either of you civil engineers or associated with the ACI or NRMCA? I agree with your accessment, but by what authority do you speak? Thank You.
Understood on the standard practice that goes on at jobsites. Thank you for your addition. As for Engineers on jobsites, I rarely if ever see them.
I bet you are a heavy metal singer with that voice , 80's metal ?
What would be the best ingredient for making air-crete more insulation factor Sir ??
More air
Thanks@@IntelligentConcrete
What is added to cement to increase the strength from 5000 psi to 25000 psi ???
More cement, less water. A dash of silica fume.
Would that increase the strength four to five fold IC ??? Just checking with you fella. @@IntelligentConcrete
The one use I've found is that a crumb rubber placed in concrete can allow a concrete to be nailable, like wood. You can hammer it by hand but the nails hold as well as they do in wood. It's an interesting concept if you want to look into it.
There is a large ufo either behind or under the Hoover Dam. Im here because google sent me here.
just talking... but no illustration. Would be better if showed with the illustration or pictures of the subject 👎👎👎
Shut up. I paid better attention this way... 😅
Are you serious? What about compressive strength? One of the most important..
Come on the correct response is pointing out they should have just put down a roll of painters plastic.😅😅😅😅😅 I just realized all they needed was just painters plastic.

Nice video! Are you talking about adding super plasticizers or what else in the concrete mix you saw being used for wine tanks in Northern California?

Came here because I wanted to use pavers for my garden but having second thoughts.
Good idea. I use them. You can get them on sale at HFH.
Can resin be addwd to the system? Like SBR or Acrylic?
Yes but it tends to foam a lot.
How do u know the quality of the RC? The higher the Cement part the better the RC? or how do u measure it, so carbonation and following corrosion ocur in the longest time possible?
I believe there is an FHWA method for pavement evaluation

Didn't help.
Really? Please elaborate so we can do better in the future.
At a PH of 10.8 and above it is no longer nano colloidal silica.
That’s the science.
Hi … I found and subscribed to this channel for one reason. To be relatively intelligent sounding when giving tours of our historic “Sandfloor Synagogue” built in 1833.
